Welcome Home Sunny

About a month after we lost Spotty, a friend sent me a link to a Dally who had come into rescue with four puppies.

I instantly shut it down.

My heart was shattered. It still is.

And the timing just felt all wrong.

I never looked at her bio. Never went back to the post. It was too soon, and I knew I wasn’t ready.

Fast forward a couple of months, and another friend tagged me in a post.

“Do you know anyone looking?”

It was her.

Sunny (then Perdita) was still available.

Normally, I probably would have shut it down again.

But that entire week leading up to that moment, I had been a mess.

The grief had come back out of nowhere.

I had been doing okay, but suddenly, anytime someone brought up Spotty, I was in tears. I missed him in a way that felt just as heavy as those first few days.

And I couldn’t shake this weird feeling…

Spotty was up to something.

So I decided to listen.

I finally opened her bio.

4 years old.
Dog friendly.
Kid friendly.
Great disposition.

Basically everything I would have written down if someone asked me what kind of dog could possibly fit into our crazy little family.

Still, it felt too good to be true.

But I reached out anyway.

“She does have a meet and greet scheduled, but you’re more than welcome to apply.”

Okay. Fine.

If she was meant to go to that family, then that was my answer.

That was Friday.

Saturday…

Sunday…

Monday…

Tuesday…

Wednesday…

“Do you want to meet Sunny?”

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!

That Friday, I loaded up Emma and my little guy and drove down to meet her.

And everything just…worked.

There wasn’t a big question mark.

There wasn’t a “let’s go home and think about it.”

We agreed to adopt her that night.

No questions asked.

On September 2nd, we made it official.

Sunny was home. ❤️

I don’t think she was sent here to replace Spotty. No dog ever could.

But I do think sometimes the dogs who love us leave little breadcrumbs behind.

And maybe Spotty knew our hearts had room for one more before we did.

More to come. ❤️
