Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Dog Treats
Well hello and welcome to the Lots of Spots Blog! It only seems fitting that the first blog post would be about food. Here's what I know...I am not the only one who thinks about food non-stop. Spot and Emma get a mean case of hanger right around 2pm every single day so I like to stay prepared! I have been making these treats for several years now and they are easily a staple in our daily routine. There are several benefits to making your own dog treats including:Â
Limited ingredients- store bought treats are filled with additives to keep them fresh for lengthy periods of time. Making your own treats means you get to skip the chemicals and eat your treats as they were intended- fresh!
Control what goes into your treats- if your dog has food allergies, making your own treats is a great way to control what your pup consumes!
Tasty! - some dogs can be really picky and avoid store bought treats at all costs. Try making your own, perhaps your dog prefers your handywork over the store's!
Peanut Butter & Pumpkin Treats
(makes about 75 bite sized treats)
Ingredients:Â
2.5 cups of whole wheat flour
2 eggs (I used organic brown eggs)
1/2 can organic pumpkin puree
2 tbsp natural peanut butter
1/2 tsp cinnamon
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.Â
Combine all ingredients in a stand-up mixer. I used a dough hook to combine all of the ingredients together. Your dough should be firm.
Roll your dough out on a lightly floured surface. Dough should be 1/4" thick.
Use a cookie cutter to cut out your individual dog treats. I used a small fire hydrant.
  Â
Place treats on a cookie sheet and place in center rack of oven for 40 minutes. Your treats should be dried out but not burnt.
  Â
Make sure your pup knows to guard the oven in case there's burglars!
  Â
Let cool and refrigerate for 2-4 weeks. Bone-apetite!
